I would say that overall TRIO SSS
is well organized and its services are helping students get that extra help
that they need. Workshops and cultural activities are mandatory for everyone in
order to be consider an active TRIO student so I think that pushes some people
to get out of their comfort zone and get out there to experience something new.
However, if I had the chance to change
something about the organization itself it would not be any of the cervices but
instead it would be the way data is managed internally, especially sign-in
sheets.
As a
federally funded program TRIO need to report all expenses and use of resources
to the federal government before re-applying for a grant. For this reason
students need to sing in every time they come into the office and have to
specify what is the reason of their visit. We are currently still using paper
sign-in sheets, which can make it time consuming when it comes to entering the
data on our software. I have seen other departments use more effective forms of
keeping record of who comes to use their services, one of the most common one is
having students swipe their ASU ID to automatically get their information. The
only issue that we are having at TRIO is that the software used to swipe ASU ID’s
is not compatible with the software we use to store our data.
Eduardo, I agree with the fact the state agencies need to get better and modern technology. I intern at a state agency and as well everything is done in paper. We use about reams of paper a week. It is not only time consuming but it is a waste of taxpayers money and time spent on workload is diminished by doing this by hand.
