Academic/Professional Background
My name is Eduardo Alonso;
my major is Public Service and Public Policy (Emergency
Management and Homeland Security) with a minor in Criminology and Criminal
Justice. I currently work on ASU campus in a program called TRIO Student
Support Services. This is a federally funded program targeted to help
low-income/first generation college students be successful throughout their
college career.
Personal Background
I was born and raised in Los Angeles,
California. As a first generation college student it is very important for me
to set a positive example for my younger brother and in a future I would like
to be able to guide him through his college experience, something that I feel I
needed my freshman year in college.
Internship Goals
- Familiarize myself with policies and federal regulations that impact the services of the program I am interning with.
- Engage with TRIO student to get an insight of the programs’ impact from a student perspective.
- Help with the planning of cultural events for students in the TRIO program.
Welcome to class, Eduardo! What do you feel ASU could do to better prepare freshmen for college life? I look forward to learning more about TRIO through your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Eduardo! I have heard of TRIO before, and I think that is so inspiring that you want to be a good role model for your younger brother and help guide him through his college experience! I know that I have been SO grateful for my sisters' advice throughout college; it definitely helps coming from someone you know and trust. Good luck in your endeavors!
ReplyDeleteHey Eduardo!
ReplyDeleteWow TRIO sounds like a great concept and I can definitely relate since I to am also a first generation college student. This definitely has made things a little harder from me, especially since my mother believed that college is not as hard as I make it seem. She just recently went back to college and her perspective on this has definitely drastically changed. I was also born and raised in Los Angeles too so theres another way we relate! I definitely look forward to reading more about your experience with this great internship!
